Description
DAYS TO GERMINATION:
7-14 days at 18–21°C.
SOWING:
Transplant (recommended): Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds on the surface of the growing medium, gently pressing them into the medium, as light is necessary for germination. Keep moist. Transplant into individual containers when seedlings are large enough to handle. Pinch out the growing tip of the plants to promote branching and higher yields. After the last frost, transplant out at 15-20 cm spacing in rows 30 cm apart.
DIRECT SEED:
Sow seeds after the last frost. Scatter the seeds, 1 seed per cm, in a narrow band on top of the prepared soil and tamp gently into place, as seeds require light to germinate. Keep moist. Thin to stand 15-20 cm apart.
LIGHT PREFERENCE:
Sun.
REQUIREMENTS:
Marjoram grows well in light soil of average fertility. It will not tolerate dry soils.
PLANT HEIGHT:
20-60 cm
PLANT SPACING:
15-20 cm
HARVEST:
Cut entire plants just as they begin to flower. For drying, hang small bunches upside down in a well-ventilated, dry location out of direct sunlight.
